Last week, I was so blessed to hear Phil Vischer speak at the Allume Conference.  He spoke at wasn't a long speech...but it spoke to my heart.

For those of you who don't know who Phil is, let me introduce you. Phil is the creator of VeggieTales and Big Idea Productions.  VeggieTales is an adorable cartoon that was launched in 1993 and casts veggies as the main characters in Bible Stories.  Since 1993, Big Idea Productions has come and gone, and now the Veggies belong to someone else, but God is still using Phil to spread the gospel.  You can read his story here.

As Phil shared his story, his humility was evident. With his pride laid aside he shared his heart, his story and his charge to us as we "pursue" the callings from the Lord in our lives.

You see...Phil's plans were INTERRUPTED when they became PHIL'S plans.  As VeggieTales began to grow, Phil lost sight of what the Lord wanted for Him and Big Idea Productions. He began to take the helm, and as a result, he lost the company. His life, the lives of his family, friends, employees and coworkers were interrupted.

I love that God is gracious and merciful.  I love that He is a God of second changes. One that will discipline us, but as a loving Father. One who will help us up after we fall off the bike that we so wanted to pre-maturely ride ourselves, but didn't have the strength or knowledge or practice to do so.

There is a new chapter in Phil's life. God has so graciously given him opportunity again to use his talents to Glorify the Name of the God. Phil now has a new production company named JellyTelly.  The reason for a jellyfish was a simple choice for Phil.

"You see, a jellyfish lacks the ability to self-propel. It can only move up and down. It's the current that moves them."           Phil Vischer, Allume, 2012

Phil's heart is to remain in God's current and not to jump off into the deep of his own promotion and BigIdeas.   What's In the Bible is a new series that is walking families right through the scriptures in a fun animated fashion.  Click here to visit their site, and be sure to WATCH THE VIDEO on the right hand side of the screen.

As we journey down the path God has called us, may we never loose sight of the one who stands at the end of the path and beckons to us.  May we not stray onto the path of our own intentions, plans and wisdom...BUT if we do...May our Father in Heaven interrupt us.  May he get our attention so that he can shape us, mold us, and reintroduce us to the path we are intended to walk.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Mat 6:33

Auto Pilot

The Fog horns are blowing. Visibility is about 20 feet in front of us.

There are no signs of the the oil barges that have speckled the landscape of the Gulf for the past 8 hours.

We are no longer on auto pilot.

So many times in our lives, we, too, are on auto pilot. We just live a well programmed life. One that seems to not need a Captain at the helm. We read the Word, go to Church, take the kids to school, do the laundry, cook the meals and pay the bills. Our live runs smoothly. We are on auto pilot.

Then the FOG comes.

We can’t see much ahead of us…we MUST turn to the Captain to steer the boat.

Our God is the mighty Captain! He knows the controls of the ship, he knows what is best for it’s passengers…For their safety and Happiness.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11”

Whatever your FOG is…give the Captain back the helm and let him Steer the course. Be intentional to give it up! Whether it’s a fog of mundaneness or a fog of tragedy in your life…Give up the helm!
