Talking In Their Sleep

Sleep alluded me last night. No reason really. I was just awake. To make some use of my time, I prayed for my sweet husband, family & friends, the season...and I listened to my children. Their sweet breaths in and out, their occasional snore...and their dreams.

It's tradition in our home that when Dad's on a business trip...I have company in the bed. They snuggle in and we talk or watch a movie until it's time to go to sleep. This was one of those nights.  But last night I, lying awake afforded me a privileged to see into their hearts.

"...for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." Matthew 12:34b

"But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart;" Matthew 15:18a

"A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh."   Luke 6:45

Last night I heard what was stored up in the hearts of my children.  Upset in his dream, I listened to him defend right from heart was blessed. "You can't punch a group of girls!  You CAN'T punch a group of girls!" No matter what was going on in that dream he knew what was happening, or about to happen, was wrong. Chivalry...even in his sleep.

Both of my children spoke truth in their dreams. Out of the abundance of their hearts flowed words of Life.

I wish I could remember the other words they spoke that touched me as I listened. But their words have slipped through the crevices of my sleep-robbed thoughts this morning.

I pray that what pours forth from my lips during my waking hours are testimony to my Lord and Saviour. That HE fills my heart into the deep places so that from His abundance flows my mouth with words of Life, Healing, Joy, Peace...

What do your lips reveal about the abundance of your heart? Is it Life or Death?

Pure at Heart

I ponder what a Pure Heart must look like...the Greek translate as clean, clear, pure thoughts, feelings, mind.

"Blessed are the Pure at Heart: for they shall see God." Matthew 5:8

WOW!  That seems rather simple, yet why is it so hard for us to walk with clean, clear thoughts and feelings?  We don't take our thought life captive to the obedience of Christ!  Time and time again, scripture discussed the inner man and it's power to persuade our outer actions.  James says that sin is born of our own lusts (fleshly desires) and then, when we dwell on it, allowing it to capture births sin. (James 1:14)

Many times, in our thought patterns, we re-enact or scheme or conjure up the happenings of a situation.  We have to be able to recognize the enemy even in our quiet thoughts.  If we let our thoughts conceive, or capture us, we then begin to weave a tangled web that sometimes leaves us blind to the actual situation.  We stir us emotions and judgements based on our OWN unclean, impure thoughts. We wonder why our prayer life and study is lacking.  Many times this can cause wedges in homes, relationships and ministries.

We must come before our God and ask HIM to show us where our thoughts and vain imaginations have lead us.  What LIES are we believing.  Who, besides ourselves, to we need to forgive and ask the God of all creation to paint a new picture in our mindset of the ones we hold in judgement.  If we don't... James goes on to say that after we our thoughts are conceived, or capture us, we sin...which leads to death. Death...a separation from God spiritually.

My prayer is that we will look at the real battle, for it is a spiritual battle, unseen to men.  The battle that rages in our thoughts and can births sin in our lives...even when NO ONE else sees.  It's fruit is either blessings, or or death.  It is the beginning of love, forgiveness, peace, patience, goodness...or it is spurs us to walk in jealousy, hate, lust, unforgiveness and disdain.

"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;  And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled." 2 Corinthians 10:3-6

May we walk with a Pure Heart so we MAY SEE GOD!

As my schooling break is coming to an end and I am preparing to finish out the year…I am taking time, again, evaluate what we learn, how we learn and whether or not I need to change something.  I do this by praying, reading through a few books,  praying…and more praying. Educating my children is an undertaking that is large, fun, scary, enlightening, rewarding, cumbersome at times and wonderful.  My “classroom” doesn’t look like anyone else's.  I don’t teach the same as anyone else.  My goals aren’t the same as anyone else's either.  That is because I have been given MY children, with their passions, their learning abilities, their tastes and their challenges.

A few days ago, I had a phone call from a friend of mine’s sweet 2 yr old…unknown to her mother. While I listened to my message I could hear my friend reading in the background from a blog that was hitting her heart.  Later she told me what it was she had been reading.

I wanted to share with you one of the paragraphs from this post.

My kids may never memorize all the Presidents, but they will know what they do and they will know to respect them at all times, even if they don’t agree with their viewpoints. They may never memorize pi, but they will know how to spot the best deal at the store, calculate percentages, and make change quickly and accurately. They may never recite Robert Frost’s poems from memory, but they will be able to quote scripture with the quickness, for any situation they come across in life. They may never draw out the countries in Africa in 60 seconds, but they sure will pretend they are missionaries in the African jungle bringing the Word of God to an unknown tribe. Then again, they may do all those amazing things if they want.” (Read the Whole Article Here)

Now I am NOT a type B person, as the article is talking about…more type A(I like my books and curriculum and ducks more in a row…haha!),  but I  love the perspective she has about rearing and training her children.

I know that the curriculum I may choose and the novels we read are ordained by God for MY children because He has placed in my heart His will for me concerning homeschooling.  I , in return, have given the burden back to Him and willfully follow after the whispers in my heart He has placed there.  For HE ALONE will accomplish His works in my family…whether my children are doctors, missionaries, teachers, homemakers or musicians, it will be because they learned and practiced following after HIM.

That, dear friends, is the ONLY “teaching” that matters, that won’t fade from memory and is ALIVE…

Here’s to finishing STRONG!
